What does Thrive Sustainably mean and stand for?

The choice of the words “thrive sustainably” carries profound significance and conveys a powerful message about the ethos and mission of the concept they represent.

“Thrive”: This word signifies more than just survival or existence; it encapsulates the idea of flourishing, growing, prospering, progressing and achieving the highest potential in every aspect of life—be it personal, societal, or environmental. It represents the aspiration for a life of abundance, well-being, and fulfilment.

“Sustainably”: This word means continuously, viably, feasibly, supportably or renewably and is the key to achieving the aforementioned thriving without compromising the well-being of the planet and future generations. It emphasizes the importance of conducting our actions, choices, and practices in a manner that can be maintained over the long term without depleting or harming the resources and ecosystems upon which we depend.

Bringing these two words together, thrive sustainably means to develop, progress and prosper responsibly and respectfully, in a way that can be maintained and sustained at a certain rate or level in the long term in order to avoid human, social and environmental damage, harm or decline. Thrive sustainably embodies the idea that true prosperity and well-being can only be achieved when they are pursued in harmony with the planet’s capacity to support us. Thrive Sustainably is a member of Becom (the Belgian e-business federation) and has been verified by the independent law firm Sirius Legal, ensuring compliance with e-commerce legislation. You can find quality labels in the footers of both the main domain and the shop domain.

How is the platform secured and protected?

We have implemented strong security measures to ensure safety. This includes SSL certificates on our main and shop domains, two-step verification for logins, and the use of security tools like CleanTalk and the Wordfence plugin to safeguard against cyber-attacks.

Who is the web designer of the platform?

The platform was built by Jochem Oomen, who not only possesses the necessary technical skills but also shares a commitment to sustainability in his work and personal life. Here are a few words from Jochem:

Food packages/Gift baskets

Are the products in the food packages/gift baskets also on the e-shop?

Yes, all the products can also be found on Biotoop’s e-shop.

Are the food packages/gift baskets wrapped?

No, you receive only the products. If you want to wrap them and give them as a gift basket, we encourage you to look for a creative and sustainable way to wrap them using material you already have. This not only saves you money (you pay only for the products), but you also give a personal present with your own touch.

Payment Methods, Product Prices and Service Fee 

Can I pay with Eco or Meal vouchers?

Yes, you can pay with Meal vouchers (Pluxee & Monizze).

Which payment options do you provide?

In addition to standard payment methods (Bancontact, iDEAL, VISA, Mastercard, American Express), you can also pay with Meal vouchers (Pluxee & Monizze).

Why is there a service fee of €2,50?

The service fee covers the costs associated with the vendor’s personnel who diligently collect and inspect your ordered products to ensure everything is in order. It also ensures that your order is well-prepared and ready for pickup. This fee is a standard charge for the service the vendor provides.


How can I place an order?

  1. Go to Shop Thrive Sustainably: Click on To the shop on the main domain or go directly to the shop domain
  2. Choose Your Vendor
  3. Find Your Product(s): Use the filter or search bar to locate your desired products. Food packages/Gift baskets are also available in this section.
  4. Add to Cart and Checkout: Add your selected products to the shopping cart and proceed to the checkout.
  5. Complete Checkout: At the checkout, fill in all the required fields. Choose whether you want the order shipped or, if possible, prefer picking it up.
  6. Payment Options: In addition to standard payment methods (Bancontact, iDEAL, VISA, Mastercard, American Express), you can also pay with Meal vouchers (Pluxee & Monizze).
  7. Confirmation Email: After successfully placing your order, you will receive a confirmation email.
  8. Order Processing: The vendor will process and ship your order as quickly as possible.

Why is there a minimum order requirement of €30?

Our e-shop is not an ordinary, mainstream e-shop but is uniquely connected to physical shops. This presents spatial and logistical challenges. To prevent overloading our vendors with small orders and to accommodate their limited storage facilities, we had to implement this minimum order limit.

This possible limitation can actually be seen as an opportunity to:

  1. Make shopping (and eating) a social experience by shopping, sharing, preparing food and eating together as family, neighbours, colleagues or as a group of friends or students.
  2. Shop more effectively and meaningfully by buying for a longer period and so shopping less often (all products have a relatively long expiration period).
  3. Explore and try out new products.

What happens with the order after it is paid?

If you choose to pick up your order, the vendor will prepare it promptly and store it safely until your pickup.

If you opt for shipping, the vendor will prepare and ship your order as quickly as possible. Shipping within Belgium typically takes between 1 to 4 workdays.

Is it possible to cancel the order?

Yes, up to 5 hours after placing the order by notifying the vendor.

Pickup of Your Order at the Vendor/Shop

How long does it take for the vendor to prepare the order?

The time required varies depending on factors like the vendor’s stock. If all ordered products are in stock, your order can be ready in 1-2 workdays. If any products need to be ordered, it may take up to 14 workdays. If the vendor cannot meet this timeframe, the vendor will notify you in advance to arrange a new collection period.

Within how many days should the order be picked up?

Please pick up your order as soon as possible during the vendor’s opening hours, as storage space is limited. You have 14 calendar days from the day the order is ready to collect it. If you can’t pick it up within this period due to a serious reason, please contact the vendor . Orders not collected within 30 calendar days will be cancelled and not refunded.

Should I bring my own bag for the order?

Our goal is to make consumption and shopping more sustainable and this can also be achieved by reusing materials and reducing waste.  This is also a win for you because you do not need to pay for the reused packing material.  However, depending on the size of your order and how you plan to pick it up, we recommend bringing your own bag(s) for added convenience.

What do I need to do when picking up the order?

Please show proof of payment, either electronically or in printed form. Also, inspect the ordered products to ensure they match your order and are in good condition.

What happens when there is a serious problem with the packaging and/or the quality of one or more products?

In that case, you will receive a refund for the affected product or, if possible, a new product.

Delivery of Your Order

How is the order packaged?

Our goal is to make consumption and shopping more sustainable and this can also be achieved by reusing materials and reducing waste. This is also a win for you because you do not need to pay for the reused packing material.

What are the delivery costs?

Biotoop: Shipping within Belgium costs €6.5 (including a guarantee) for packages weighing up to 30 kilograms. There is free shipping within Belgium for orders over €100.

How quickly will the order be delivered?

Shipping within Belgium takes between 1 to 4 workdays.

With which delivery providers do the vendors work?

Biotoop works with a local distribution platform wij.leveren and with bpost to ensure that your order is delivered in a sustainable way.

Complaints and disputes

How can I file a complaint ?

Every vendor strives for satisfied customers. If you have any complaints regarding the order, you can contact the vendor via the contact details that you can find on both our shop domain and our main domain under “Contact”. The vendor will do everything it can to handle your complaint within 7 days.

As a consumer you also have the option to resolve the dispute outside of court. You can contact the Consumer Ombudsman Service of the Federal Government for this. It is authorized to receive any request for out-of-court settlement of consumer disputes.  It will either handle the request itself or forward it to a qualified entity..
